    Course overview

Why choose Midwifery with Professional Registration (Shortened Programme for Registered Adult Nurses) BSc at Middlesex?

Our specially shortened Midwifery BSc has been developed in partnership with local NHS hospitals, which means that up to 50% of teaching takes place in London’s leading maternity wards.

You’ll gain practical experience in a realistic and safe simulated environment at our new West Stand facility – our state-of-the-art training centre which is known for being one of the best in the UK.

HEE (Health Education England) will fund tuition fees and salary support for shortened programme students until April 2026. Read more about funding arrangements on the NHS site.

    What you will gain

Our course is approved by the Nursing Midwifery Council (NMC) and you’ll be placed on the professional midwifery register once you graduate.

Once you graduate, there will be some great career opportunities available for you to choose from. Over 90% of our graduates are in employment.

Your skills will be in high demand in NHS labour and antenatal wards, private practices, as well as within communities, local clinics, and GP surgeries.

    Accreditations

This course is accredited by the Nursing and Midwifery Council and leads to eligibility to receive the status as a Registered Midwife. This means the course is professionally recognised for being of the highest quality, focused on developing the knowledge and skills that employers require.

    What you will learn

Our brilliant Middlesex team have current first-hand knowledge of the exhilarating but challenging midwife role, both in the UK and internationally.

They will help you build the resilience needed to support others through pregnancy, childbirth and the early years of childcare.

Key modules include anatomy, physiology/pathophysiology, legal  or ethical concerns, and cultural and psychosocial issues.

On our highly-respected midwifery conversion degree, you will:

    • Spend half your time doing practical work at your placement hospital. Our partner hospitals include Whittington Hospital, North Middlesex Hospital, Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust, Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust and Barts Health NHS trust
    • Get extensive practice of interprofessional working while you study. Clinical practice weeks will require you to work shifts and experience the 24-hour, seven-day care cycle to develop your understanding of women’s and babies’ needs throughout a 24-hour period
    • Your caseload will be purposefully small so you’re able to practice proficiency and continuity while being supported by a mentor
    • Practice the theories of the classroom in our high-tech nursing and midwifery simulation suites which feature Hololens simulations for you to safely practise skills such as resuscitation and dealing with complex care needs.
