Bath Spa University is a public institution of higher learning and research that was first established as the Bath School of Art in 1852 as a result of the Great Exhibition (1851). The Bath College of Higher Education was created in 1975 by the merger of two colleges: Bath Teacher Training College and Bath College of Domestic Science. Bath Academy of Art joined the combined organization in 1983. The college was given the authority to confer degrees in 1992, and in 1995 its name was changed to Bath Spa University College.
