Why Mechanical Engineering at ARU?
- Develop the knowledge and skills you need to resolve practical, real-world challenges, and practice the ‘art of precision guesswork’ and problem solving.
- Study in our state-of-the-art facilities including 3D printing, CAD/CAM (Computer Aided Design/Manufacturing) laboratories, and CNC (Computer Numerically Controlled) machining.
- Explore modules in areas including materials, design and modelling, fluid mechanics and thermodynamics, as well as project-based learning.
- Engage in ‘Live Briefs’ with local industry partners, giving you exposure to ‘real life’ engineering problem solving.
- A diverse breadth of expert staff with a wide range of industrial and academic backgrounds make learning more real, hands-on and relevant.
Get involved in hands-on projects with other engineering students, developing your teamwork and leadership skills while learning how to analyse and solve problems creatively. This course is to give you real world experience, preparing you for employment.
At ARU, we have embraced the challenge to introduce 50% of our engineering curriculum based on developing practical and applied skills among our engineering cohorts. Our engineering curriculum at ARU offers unique project-based curriculum at each level, in which students are offered industry led “Live Briefs” applying fundamental science and engineering principles to propose a solution. Through these collaborative modules and the course you will get the opportunity to work with companies from industry such as BAE systems. Ford Motor Company, New Hollands, Antobot and Tecosim.
This innovative approach allows students to spend 50% of their time in classroom to study fundamental engineering curriculum and spend remaining 50% time in the well-equipped engineering workshops as well as specialist laboratories. This hands-on approach at ARU is supported by local and national engineering companies, such as BAE system and Tecosim.
All our engineering courses are in line with the new Engineering Council requirements (AHEP 4.0). Accreditation for our BEng (Hons) Mechanical Engineering degree from IMechE and IET has been arranged when full student output from the course is available.
You can also choose to take an optional placement year in industry as part of this course, further enhancing your skills, experience and employability.
